lesbians are the cure

2004-03-05 - 1:31 p.m.

i've been having dreams lately involving both politics and sex. hey, at least i never slept with woody allen in real life.

so i'd heard that blink 182 got robert smith on their new album for a song. 'pretty damn cool,' thinks i, since i've always loved blink 182 for being the pop punksters that they are, though i've only ever purchased their very first album. they make the kind of music that i love to turn up when it comes on the radio, but otherwise i don't really sit around and contemplate to blink 182. and yes, i do sit around and contemplate to most of my music. it's my thing.

but this robert smith thing intrigued me. even so, i have not gotten around to checking out the album. then, a few weeks later, i read about how mtv show a different version of their 'i miss you' video during the day because of a scene in which two women are kissing. 'hah, nice one mtv! you're soooo cutting edge, cowering down to conservative tv standards. we'll show women's tits and asses jiggling in bikinis and men groping these self-same women, but two women kissing? *gasp!* the horror, the horror!'

well, today i finally saw the video for 'i miss you.' (daytime version, of course. lesbians only come out at night.) and i must saw, i was...shocked. blown away, even. that was one gorgeous video, and one amazing song. and as much as i love blink, i never expected this from the boys. the song begins with a very interesting melody, travis doing something different and a bit more mellow on the drums. then mark starts making 'nightmare before xmas' references, and he officially has my full attention. 'that rocks!' i said out loud to the cat and the room at large. and the song has elements of familiar blink 182 about it, so it's itentifiable to the fan base, but there's something more there, too. something different, sincere, and very lovely. the whole video is shot in this fuzzy kind of old-timey light (i don't make music videos, so i don't know any technical terms at the moment) and it's just very artistic and fitting for the song. everything about both the video and the song made me fall in fresh love with blink 182.

so now i must go and bathe so that i can go buy the album before work. hoorah, boys, ya done good.
